The music of Second Set is an organic blend of straightforward rock, soulful blues, and jazzy funk. Their fresh, original style sits well everywhere, from a Bourbon Street blues bar to a high-energy rock festival. The result is rhythmic storytelling with Southern groove and a sound that's easy to love.

Second Set is Tim Kingsbury on bass, Joe Gorman on vocals and rhythm guitar, Mike Park on drums and Jordan Feinstein on keyboards and vocals. Recently Sean Hancock and Dave from Funky Buelah have sat in on lead guitar over the past few months. Ryan Rigoli from Kingstreet Crossing has also sat in on percussion with the band.

Second Set has played regularly to packed houses at some of the Bay Area's best live music clubs including Last Day Saloon, Tongue & Groove, Broadway Studios, Red Devil Lounge, Hotel Utah Saloon, Curve Bar, and a very special post September 11th KFOG 104.5 Discovery Show at Slim's with Luce on September 21, 2001.

History

Second Set was formed in the winter of 1999 through the initial collaboration of bassist Tim Kingsbury and singer/guitarist Joe Gorman. Soon Edward Scott joined the project on lead guitar and vocals, and Mario Santana on the drums. The foursome played coffee shops and house parties under their original name, "Spin Cycle."

In January of 2000, Spin Cycle changed their name to Second Set and recorded a demo with producer/engineer Chris Manning. With such high-profile acts under his belt as Box Set, Guster, N.W.A. and Santana, Manning brought the wisdom and experience to help fine-tune the band's overall sound.

The demo was supposed to help open doors, and it did. From Humboldt to L.A., Sacramento to Lake Tahoe the band played live shows throughout California, focusing their attention on their hometown of San Francisco.

Following a few guest appearances on stage, Jordan Feinstein joined the band on keys. In December 2000 the now complete five piece teamed up once again with Manning to work on their first full length studio release. The album was cut in three weeks at Owl Mountain Studios, Inverness, CA, and mastered at The Plant Studios, Sausalito, CA. Entitled First In Line, the independent debut was released in April, 2001.

In December of 2001 Ed Scott and Mario Santana both decided to part from the band on excellent terms, heading to the East Coast to be near their families and to work on new projects. Though a devastating blow to the band the remaining members regrouped and began searching for new musicians.

After auditioning 24 drummers in the winter of 2002 and having 4 different drummers sit in for gigs throughout the Spring, Mike Park who currently plays for the Ron Jeremy Explosion agreed to practice and perform with Second Set through Summer 2002 and beyond.

In June of 2002 the newly revived Second Set began writing new material that seemed completely different than the original Second Set sound. The new sound is full of funky instrumentals like "Funky Ya Ya" and "C Monster" combined with new country like ballads like "Knock on my door" and "Roses in my hand."

The band continues to book locally and pack venues in San Francisco. Come out to the next show and check out the new Second Set sound. New tunes are available in the Songs section.

Special thanks to Chris Manning, Elliot, and Mike Pitre for their contributions to Second Set over the years.
